WHAT IS PROCESS IN PERFORMANCE?

Process in Performance is an interview series started by Nick Westrate with the help of New York Theatre Workshop's Linda Chapman and Jim Nicola in 2011. It is a series of conversations with luminary performers of various non-traditional and experimental theater backgrounds. We hope to create a broader aesthetic and practical dialogue between performers in order to deepen our understanding of each others' work and to expand the possibilities of our own. Process in Performance is a part of the NYTW Larson Lab Series.

We hope that through this online presence we are able to continue the conversation and inspiration we find each month at the "Process in Performance" events at NYTW.

Creator and Co-Curator: Nick Westrate
Producer and Co-Curator: Rachel Silverman

He is the 2011 winner of the St. Clair Bayfield award from Actor's Equity for Shakespearean performance for his Berowne in "Love's Labor's Lost" at The Public Theater this year, and was a 2010 Drama Desk Nominee for his performance as Donald in "The Boys in the Band"; for Transport Group. He is a graduate of the Juilliard School.

New York Theatre Workshop is a remarkable off-Broadway theatre noted for its acclaimed and innovative productions... a workshop where artists create new work, hone their craft and collaboratively explore theatre... all rooted in our cozy East Village digs located in the heart of New York's downtown arts scene.

Larson Lab: Born from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation's challenge grant and created in 2001, the Jonathan Larson Lab is a memorial to the creator of Rent that gives emerging and established theatre artists essential resources, a nurturing creative environment, and an open canvas for exploring their ideas and developing their work.
